Heat the olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 5 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and tender.

Stir in the minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Continue to cook for 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant.

While the mushrooms are cooking, lightly toast the bread slices until they are just golden.
