In a medium saucepan, combine water, black tea bags (or loose leaf tea in a tea infuser), cinnamon sticks, crushed cardamom pods, whole cloves, and sliced ginger. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes to allow the spices to infuse.

Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and honey until the honey is fully dissolved. Taste and adjust honey if a sweeter concentrate is desired.

Strain the chai concentrate through a fine-mesh sieve into a heatproof container, discarding the solids. Allow the concentrate to cool completely to room temperature.

Once cooled, cover the chai concentrate and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until thoroughly chilled. This passive time allows the flavors to deepen.

To assemble the iced chai, fill four tall glasses with ice cubes. Pour 1/2 cup of the chilled chai concentrate into each glass.

Top each glass with 1/2 cup of chilled milk. Stir gently to combine.

Optionally, drizzle with additional honey and dust with a pinch of cinnamon before serving.
