Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) or set to broil for the garlic bread preparation.

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with the diced onion and green pepper until the beef is browned. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.

Stir in the minced garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, brown sugar, chopped pepperoncini, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the sloppy joe mixture has thickened and the flavors have melded.

While the sloppy joe mixture is simmering, prepare the garlic bread. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with the minced garlic. Spread this garlic butter generously on both sides of the thick bread slices. Toast the bread in the preheated oven or on a skillet until it is golden and crispy, which should take about 5-7 minutes.

Spoon the hot Mississippi sloppy joe mixture generously onto each slice of garlic bread. Top each open-faced sandwich with plenty of shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese.

Place the assembled sloppy joes under the broiler for 2-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep a close eye on them to prevent burning.

Top with sliced pickled jalapeños and extra pepperoncini if desired. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
