Bring a large pot of generously salted water to a rolling boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package directions until al dente. Before draining, reserve 1 1/2 cups of the pasta cooking water.

While the pasta cooks, melt the butter in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to brown it.

Stir in the lemon zest and fresh lemon juice. Bring to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Stir in the heavy cream, 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, 1 tablespoon of kosher salt, and black pepper. Whisk until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.

Add the drained spaghetti directly to the skillet with the lemon sauce. Toss to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce seems too thick, add 1/4 cup of the reserved pasta water at a time, stirring constantly, until the desired consistency is reached. You may not need all of the reserved water.

Serve immediately, garnished with additional grated Parmesan cheese and fresh chopped parsley.
