In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and yeast. Add the milk, butter, and 1 egg. Mix all ingredients thoroughly with a spoon or spatula until a shaggy dough forms.

Transfer the dough to a clean surface and knead by hand until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the kneaded dough back into the bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rest for 1 hour to rise.

While the dough is rising, grate the 300 grams of cheese into a separate bowl.

Once the dough has risen, remove the plastic wrap and transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into two equal portions.

Take one portion of the dough and, using a rolling pin, roll it out into a rectangular shape. Evenly spread half of the grated cheese over the entire surface of the rolled-out dough rectangle.

Carefully roll the dough tightly from one of the long ends to form a log shape. Using a knife, cut the dough log lengthwise down the middle, leaving about 1-2 cm from one end still connected.

Gently twist the two cut halves of the dough together to form a braided appearance. Bring the two ends of the braid together and pinch them to seal, forming a circular, wreath-like shape.

Repeat the shaping process with the second portion of dough and the remaining cheese.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Carefully transfer the two shaped cheese breads onto the prepared baking sheet. In a small bowl, whisk 1 egg to create an egg wash. Brush the tops of both cheese breads generously with the egg wash.

Preheat your oven to 180°C. Bake the cheese breads for 25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.

Once baked, remove the cheese breads from the oven. Allow them to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
