Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8x8 inch rectangular baking pan.

In a large metal bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and baking soda. Whisk them together until well combined.

Add the large egg, neutral oil, and white miso paste to the dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon until a very thick batter is formed. Do not worry if the batter seems too thick; this is the desired consistency.

Add the chopped apples to the thick batter. Fold the apples into the batter using the wooden spoon until they are evenly distributed throughout.

Pour the apple batter into the prepared rectangular baking pan. Spread it evenly with the back of the spoon or a spatula.

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. The cake should be golden brown on top.

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
