Preheat your oven to 350°F.

Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

In a large bowl, whisk the 1 cup of melted butter and 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder together until smooth.

Stir in the 2 cups of granulated sugar, 2 cups of all-purpose flour, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Mix until the mixture is thick.

Add the 4 large eggs one at a time, then add the 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Continue mixing until the batter becomes glossy.

Spread the brownie batter evenly into the prepared 9x13 inch pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Do not overbake; the goal is moist crumbs.

In the last 5 minutes of the brownies baking time, prepare the frosting. In a separate bowl, whisk together the 1/4 cup of softened butter, 1/4 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of cocoa powder, 3 cups of powdered sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and pourable. If the frosting is too thick, add milk 1 teaspoon at a time. If the frosting is too thin, add powdered sugar 1 tablespoon at a time.

Immediately remove the hot brownies from the oven. Pour the prepared frosting over the hot brownies and spread it quickly and evenly.

Allow the brownies to cool for 30-45 minutes until the frosting sets into a thin, crackly layer.

Cut into squares and enjoy.
