Prepare the balsamic glaze: Pour the balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer, stirring occasionally, until the vinegar has thickened to a syrupy consistency and reduced by about half. This will take approximately 8-10 minutes. Be careful not to burn it. Remove from heat and set aside to cool. It will thicken further as it cools.

Prepare the skewers: Thread one cherry tomato onto a wooden skewer. Follow with a fresh basil leaf, folded in half if large, then a fresh mozzarella ball. Repeat the pattern: another basil leaf, another cherry tomato, another basil leaf, and finally another mozzarella ball. You should have two tomatoes and two mozzarella balls per skewer, separated by basil leaves.

Arrange the finished skewers on a serving platter.

Just before serving, drizzle the cooled balsamic glaze generously over the Caprese skewers. If desired, lightly drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.
