Drain the canned lychees, carefully reserving all of the lychee juice from the can. Set aside the reserved juice.

In a small saucepan, combine the 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1/4 cup water. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar completely dissolves and a clear simple syrup is formed. This should take about 3-5 minutes.

Remove the simple syrup from the heat and add the drained lychees to the hot syrup. Gently stir to coat the lychees. Pour the lychee simple syrup mixture into an airtight container and allow it to cool completely to room temperature, then transfer to the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours.

While the lychee syrup chills, brew the green tea. Place two green tea bags into each of four mugs or a large heatproof pitcher. Pour 1 cup of hot water over the tea bags for each serving (totaling 4 cups for 4 servings). Let the tea steep according to package instructions (typically 3-5 minutes). Remove the tea bags and let the brewed green tea cool completely to room temperature, then refrigerate until thoroughly chilled.

To assemble each drink, fill a serving glass generously with ice.

Add a generous amount of the cooled lychee pieces and some of the lychee syrup from the chilled container to the glass.

Pour in the cooled green tea, filling the glass about two-thirds full.

Top off the drink with the reserved lychee juice from the can.

Stir well to combine all the ingredients. If desired, garnish with a fresh lychee on the rim of the glass before serving.
