In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, Italian breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Form the mixture into 16-20 meatballs, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. You should get approximately 4-5 meatballs per sub.

Preheat your air fryer to 375°F. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.

Place the meatballs in a single layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the meatballs are browned and cooked through.

While the meatballs are cooking, prepare the sub rolls. Slice them lengthwise, but not all the way through, creating a hinge. Lightly toast the rolls in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes at 350°F, or in a conventional oven, if desired, to prevent them from getting soggy.

Once the meatballs are cooked, carefully remove them from the air fryer. Open each sub roll and spread a generous amount of warmed marinara sauce on the inside.

Place 4-5 meatballs inside each sub roll. Top the meatballs with more marinara sauce and then a generous layer of shredded mozzarella cheese.

Place the assembled subs back into the air fryer basket (you may need to do this in batches). Air fry at 350°F for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the rolls are lightly toasted.

Carefully remove the subs from the air fryer. Garnish with additional grated Parmesan cheese and fresh chopped parsley, if desired. Serve immediately.
