Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease and flour a 10x15 inch jelly roll pan with gluten-free flour.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the gluten-free all-purpose flour blend, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a medium saucepan, combine 1/2 cup unsalted butter, water, and an additional 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, stirring occasionally.

Remove the saucepan from the heat. Immediately whisk in the eggs, buttermilk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract into the hot mixture until well combined.

Pour the wet ingredients mixture from the saucepan into the bowl containing the dry ingredients. Mix with a whisk or spatula until the ingredients are just combined and no dry streaks remain. Do not overmix.

Pour the cake batter evenly into the prepared 10x15 inch jelly roll pan.

Bake the cake for 18-20 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. While the cake bakes, begin preparing the frosting.

For the frosting, in a separate saucepan, combine 1/2 cup unsalted butter, 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, and milk over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally.

Remove the frosting mixture from the heat. Whisk in the powdered sugar until smooth, then whisk in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

Once the cake is out of the oven, immediately pour the warm frosting evenly over the warm cake. Use an offset spatula to spread it if needed, ensuring it covers the entire surface.

Let the cake cool completely at room temperature for at least 1 hour before serving. This allows the frosting to set.
